Hi everyone it's Xebs, into shocking news with a Q&A with Pat Carroll, the voice of Ursula said that she is has done a new recording for "The Little Mermaid 3D".
In Orlando, United States, Pat Carroll was invited to be a guest speaker for the Spooky Empire May-Hem convention. She read a script from the introduction from the Haunted Mansion, after that, Q&A time. The question is unknown, but her answer was that she has recently recorded new voice work for the 3D release of "The Little Mermaid", and that the film would feature new footage that was deleted in storyboard phase back in 1989.
Here are some quotes that people have said over the internet:
I just got home from a Q&A with Pat Carroll in Orlando, FL, who said something very interesting. She says that she has recently recorded NEW voice work for the 3D release of The Little Mermaid and that the film would feature new footage that was deleted in storyboard phase back in 1989.
So, according to Ursula herself, we'll be seeing more than just a new restoration.

Just got back from a Q&A with Pat Carroll in Orlando, FL ... she said that she just recently recorded voice work for The Little Mermaid 3D and that the film was adding additional footage intended back in 1989. It's possible Disney scrapped the plans to animate new footage, as I'd have thought they'd be promoting the hell out of an "All-New Scene", but according to Pat, we can expect something more than just a new restoration. Holding onto my Limited Issue and Platinum DVD's just in case this turns out weird.
She also mentioned how much she despised The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.
(I didn't mind Ursula's Sister "Morgana").
I personally find this extremely shocking. Think about it? A new scene included into an 80's cel-animated movie, with the workings of CAPS (Computer Animation Production System) for the new scene. It would look too new and very weird.
I thought Disney has learned their lesson when they included that horrible song that Zazu does in the IMAX and DVD release of "The Ling King" the song "Morning Report".
…and I hate the song in "Pocahontas" when John Smith sang the song "If I Never Knew You". (Only on DVD).
I personally like the "Human Again" song in "Beauty and the Beast", but people in general have mix feelings about it.
Back to the new scene, I think it's going to be the song "Silence Is Golden", why? well, it's one of few songs that are quite important to the story line unless they get rid of "Poor Unfortunate Souls", which I would be absolutely angry if Disney made that move.
(please note: it's Alan Menken singing and playing the Piano featuring the video of "Poor Unfortunate Souls").
Overall I hope it's in 3D in cinemas worldwide, and hope that they won't make a complete mess of a great Disney Classic. (Maybe that's why Disney didn't want to release it because they made a HUGE mess of the movie?)
UPDATE: It turns out, for behind the scenes of The Little Mermaid (Diamond Edition) on Blu-ray. Pat Carroll used her talented voice for a deleted scene. The scene includes a merman named Harold, who tried helped Ursula with a deal, but eventually becomes one of Ursula's lost souls in her lair.

So... In the end, it turns out there will be no new scenes included in 1989s, The Little Mermaid.

I've yet to see a 3D movie of a traditionally animated film. This will be interesting when it's released.
I've got mixed feelings about new additions. Sure, it's good to have new stuff...but so long as it doesn't detract from the original masterpiece.
